Scope of training activity
Utility and Construction Training Power deliver formal training in electrical power engineering. Courses range from a 1 day refresher, to 3 year level 3 apprenticeships.
The scope of training input includes craft trade skills, Industry licences, and technical training.
Craft trade skills includes;
- Cable Jointing - Live LV, 11kV and 33kV
- Electrical Fitting - Distribution and Transmission
- Overhead Lines - LV - 33kV Wood pole, and Transmission Tower Training
All suported by academic input in the form of a technical certificate C&G 2339-17 electrical power engineering qualification.
Licences required by network owners to access electrical sites compliant with the industry lead body EU Skills.
Skills required to operate the network including LV fusing linking , producing switching programs, commission testing and related skills.
Many programs are supported by funding from the SFA or emlpoyer ownership fund schemes
UCT have developed a universal training workshop that will allow craft training of 3 groups of learners in same trade or 3 separate trades simultaniously.
The workshop is designed to facilitate safe supervison and strict control over electrical interaction in those early stages of trade skills training.
Jointing bays, Fitting workshop and low level wood pole over head line facilities that can be energised to maintain high training standards, and quality delivery methods to enhance the experience of learners and prepare them for real life work environment.
In addition to the workshop, UCT have an external area for overhead lines training
